Zachary Quinto counts Spock predecessor as a close friend

Zachary Quinto has formed a close friendship with his Star Trek predecessor Leonard Nimoy over their shared love of Mr. Spock. Quinto has donned Spock’s pointy ears for two rebooted installments of the sci-fi series, following in the footsteps of Nimoy, who originally played the cool-headed alien in 1966.
The pair appeared alongside each other in 2009’s Star Trek, with Nimoy playing an older version of the character, and the film marked the start of a surprising friendship between them.
Quinto tells British TV show Lorraine, “I never thought or expected to become as close to Leonard as I have, but he’s become a primary instrumental figure in my life. We are very, very close, we see each other as often as we can, I’m very close with his wife and his family.
“So it’s far exceeded my expectations, it’s been such a gratifying relationship personally, but it’s informed my creative process and my relationship to the character because I have such respect for him. I see the way his relationship with Spock for the last 45-50 years has shaped his journey.”
