Zendaya considers herself a “grandma” because she hates going out and drinking.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming star turned 21 last September (17). But while reaching the legal drinking age is a point of celebration for many people, Zendaya wasn’t bothered – mainly because she doesn’t drink alcohol.
“My 21st birthday was at my house, with my family and friends,” she told FASHION Magazine. “There was no alcohol – I mean, people can have alcohol if they want it, but (I wasn’t) going to be drinking any. For me, a Vegas version of my birthday would be like hell.”
And while her career as a multi-talented singer and actress means she has her pick of events to attend, Zendaya much prefers cuddling up in front of her television.
“I’ve always been a very old woman inside a younger person’s body,” she laughed. “Of course, I have my young-people tendencies; we all have those. But at the end of the day, I’ve always been called a grandma. I don’t like going out. I enjoy the company of my TV and myself. And you know what? It’s been very helpful, honestly.”
Zendaya first made a name for herself in the industry on Disney Channel show Shake It Up. Starting in the business at the tender age of 14 was a gamble for the star, but she believes a higher power had faith she would be able to handle the “pressure” of fame.
“I like to think that in some divine way, I don’t know how, the universe decided I was a good person to do this because I’m a good person,” she smiled. “And I guess the universe knew – if we’re accepting that that’s a thing – that I would try to do something good with what I’ve got and I’d be able to handle the pressure.”
