Zendaya is offering fans the chance to be part of a video for charity song This Is For My Girls.
Teaming up with the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama, singer Kelly Clarkson and rapper Missy Elliott for the new girl-power anthem, the 19-year-old entertainer is now promoting the chance for women to appear in the star-studded music video for the song.
Using AOL’s new crowd-sourcing app, Makers Stories, women from across the globe are encouraged to upload a two-minute video of themselves talking about the message that most inspires them in the song.
Eventually, fifty of the videos will be clipped together and included in the This Is for My Girls music video, which was created in support of Let Girls Learn – a U.S. government initiative launched by President Barack Obama and his wife which seeks to help the more than 62 million girls around the world go to school.
“Sticking with your vision and what you believe in is so, so important,” says Zendaya in her video clip. “There are so many people that are going to tell you what you should think of yourself, and it’s so important that you look at yourself, you become happy with yourself and confident in your own opinions and your own strength – and stay with that because it’s so hard, especially if you’re young. People always want to doubt you.”
The song, which was written by Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren, was unveiled at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas earlier this month (Mar16). It combines horns with a military-like drum beat, while the lyrics are mostly made up of statements of empowerment such as “Don’t take nothing from nobody”, “It’s all about respect” and “Stand strong forever”.
This Is for My Girls is exclusively available on iTunes, with 100 per cent of the proceeds donated in support of the Peace Corps Let Girls Learn Fund.
