Boise Movie Theaters: Egyptian Theatre

Located in the heart of downtown Boise, the Egyptian Theatre is known as the oldest theatre in Idaho. Opening its doors in 1927, the theater first showed classics of the Hollywood Golden age on a single screen. Now, the theater offers concerts, opera, live performances, film festivals, and movie premieres.

In 1999, the Egyptian Theatre had its elements restored by the Hardy Foundation, Inc. to keep  the theater alive.  The venue has special Egyptian architecture and jeweled ornaments. In its history, it has hosted premieres for the The Bourne Identity series and a public screening for an episode of Breaking Bad.

Tickets for movies cost around $10 with a selection of classics, indie, or older popular films. If you’re interested in renting out the theater for special events, the Egyptian Theatre offers 35mm, BlueRay, DVD, and 70mm equipment.

The theatre spent years hosting Boise Classic Movies, an organization that lets the participants pick a classic movie they’d like to see on the big screen. At the viewing, movie-goers dress up as characters from the chosen movie and earn prizes. Now, BCM has moved to a new location.

“Beautiful historic venue that brings in quality events,” one Google reviewer says. “Great supporters of the community. What more can you ask for?” The answer is nothing.
