Singapore “Millionaire”: not the final answer

The government of Singapore claims that the local version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and a contestant who appeared on it got the answer to the $4,000 (US$2,221) question wrong Thursday night. The question was “What is the name of the Prisons Department’s Special Task Force?” The multiple choice answers were: DRILL, DART, CHAIN and HAMMER. The contestant’s answer, DART, was ruled correct. However, following the program the Prisons Department and the Singapore Civil Defense Force informed the producers of the program that the correct answer should have been SPEAR, for Singapore Prisons Emergency and Action Force. [Why the final “F” in the anagram was replaced with an “R” was not explained.) A spokesman for the program told the Singapore Sunday Times: “We acknowledge that there was human error when the question was entered into the database.”
