Synopsis

The U.S./Iraq Gulf War was a conflict which culminated in January and February of 1991, following the 1990 Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, over which it claimed it had strong historical ties of ownership. The U.S. and its allies objected to this occupation; the filmmakers show that this was more likely due to strategic reasons rather than for the humanitarian reasons which were claimed. In the resulting confrontation, the U.S. and its allies not only fought the Iraqi army to a standstill in a few short weeks, but bombed many strategic sites throughout Iraq itself. This Swedish documentary examines the claims of the opponents of Iraq that they were fighting a just war, and it documents the extent of the so-called "collateral damage" which devastated the lives of Iraqi civilians then and for many years to come. Ironically, though the war was allegedly fought in opposition to Hussein and his regime, the chief victims of the conflict seem to have been the non-combatant population. In addition, new forms of injuries to soldiers resulted from the use of laser-guided technology.
