This program offers a record of the events of the occupation of Alcatraz Island by Native American activists from 1969 to 1971. For perhaps the first time, Native Americans from a variety of tribes came together to protest together and draw attention to the mistreatment of their people by the Federal government. In the shadow of the civil rights movement, this action drew much attention both from the media and government authorities.
