A 911 call made public Monday quotes drummer Tommy Lee as saying that the 4-year-old old boy who drowned in his pool Saturday had been left alone "for a minute," Reuters reports. "There's a big pool party here and no one was paying attention for a minute," Lee reportedly said on the tape. The operator then asked whether Daniel Karven Veres' chest or stomach was rising and Lee offered, "I don't know--everyone is pressing in on him." After being asked to prevent the partygoers from closing in, Lee said in an exasperated tone of voice, "I know, there's a bunch of (expletive) people all doing their thing so I don't what the (expletive) to do. OK." The Los Angeles Police Department has ruled the drowning at Lee's Malibu, Calif., home as an accident.
SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 1, 2000 -- Looks like Whoopi Goldberg's single again. The Oscar-winning thespian turned "Hollywood Square" queen has split with her boyfriend of five years, actor Frank Langella, today's Daily Variety says. The two have been an item since the mid-1990s when they met on the set of one of Goldberg's cinematic opuses: "Eddie" (the one where she plays the limo driver who -- oh, my! -- gets hired to coach basketball's New York Knicks! Hee, hee.)Goldberg's last high-profile romance was with "Cheers" star turned "Becker" guy Ted Danson. That one hit the skids shortly after Danson's black-faced tribute to Goldberg at a Friar's Club Roast in 1993.Though Goldberg, 50, and Langella, 60, never wed, Variety says the ex-couple intends to stay "close friends" just like real-live Hollywood husbands and wives who haul each other into divorce court
Another body blow for "Rocky."According to reports today, the hit-challenged Sylvester Stallone, who last year complained he was, yo, "a man without a country," is now minus a big-time deal with Universal Pictures that reportedly guaranteed him $20 mil per flick. No word on when exactly the pact was terminated, or who did the terminating. (Stallone's camp issued a "no comment" on the Daily Variety report.) We only know this: Stallone hasn't had a certified hit since "Cliffhanger" and "Demolition Man," both released in 1993. We also know this: The landmark $60 million, three-picture deal, between Universal and the middle-aged action star in August 1995, produced just one movie, the as-yet-unreleased thriller "D-Tox." But all is not lost for our fiftysomething fellow. Lately, Stallone has been keeping busy with a remake of "Get Carter," the 1971 action film
