In this gentle comedy, a Japanese carpenter has been flown into Tanganyika to build a house for a man who seems to have disappeared. In preparation for his journey he studied Swahili but speaks it so badly that the natives completely misunderstand his intentions and instead of helping him build the contracted house, they give him a job handling cows. Eventually, he comes to terms with them and with his situation, and as barriers fall, everyone's genuine humanity comes to the fore.
