Bye Bye Berlusconi! (2006)

Synopsis

The title character of Jan Henrik Stahlberg's German-produced, Italian-language political satire Bye Bye Berlusconi! is a slightly fictionalized, farcical version of the real-life Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi (here portrayed by Maurizio Antonini). This caustic picture cuts between two interrelated stories, blending narrative modes in the process. One tale constitutes a mockumentary about a film crew attempting to make a documentary highly critical of Berlusconi, but running into a myriad of related problems when the authorities make not-so-subtle attempts to forcibly shut down the shoot . Eventually, the objectors force the producer to rename Berlusconi "Mickey Louse," and endanger the life of each filmmaker . The second narrative strand constitutes a fictional piece about a terrorist kidnapping of Berlusconi, in which the abductors put the prime minister on trial, via the internet. Lucia Chiarla and Pietro Bontempo co-star.
