Synopsis

A camcorder becomes a witness to the joys and terrors of modern life in this mockumentary drama from filmmaker Vassilis Katsikis. A young boy is celebrating his birthday with his family as his dad videotapes the party for posterity when the kid accidentally damages the camera while playing with his brother. The father drops off the video camera at an electronics shop to get it fixed, but not long afterward the shop is robbed by a pack of young thugs, and the camera becomes part of their loot. Once the camera is in their hands, it begins a strange and unexpected journey around the world, as the malfunctioning camera is used to record everything from street warfare in the Third World to kinky fun at an underground swingers club. With the camera providing the film's point-of-view, CCTV purports to be made up of the videotape left behind in the camcorder when it is finally picked up by a police officer in Great Britain. CCTV was the first dramatic feature for Vassilis Katsikis, who previously had an extensive background in documentaries; the film received its North American premiere at the 2005 Chicago Film Festival.
