Synopsis:
Marguerite Gauthier is born poor but becomes the Dame aux Camille, one of the most glamorous courtesans in Paris. She is kept by the wealthy and powerful Baron de Varville, but after years of her rich lifestyle she falls in love with Armand, a man of more limited means. The two plan a life together, but Armand's father begs Camille to leave his son, knowing her past could cause a scandal. She agrees, and finds herself alone and suffering from tuberculosis.
