Synopsis
This routine documentary on fighting fat examines the complexities of weight loss by recording one session of group therapy for eight overweight women. Statistics are cited to indicate the high percentage of Aussies that have dieted at some point (this is an Australian film), and the equally high statistics of ultimate failure. The psychological stigma of being "fat" is laid on the doorstep of the fashion magazines and advertising, companies that make a profit out of slimming down the overweight are criticized, and mention is made of both bulimia and anorexia nervosa. The women also discuss their own personal histories and problems with dieting. Geared for an audience already interested in the subject, this documentary is moderately informative, though not revolutionary in any way.
