Everyday Heroes (2001)

Everyday Heroes (2001)

Synopsis

The AmeriCorps program hires young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 to help run useful community projects all around America. Since it was created during the early 1990s, AmeriCorps has provided thousands of young adults with leadership skills that will serve them well long after their AmeriCorps projects are completed. This documentary looks at what 21 AmeriCorps workers are trying to achieve in the San Francisco Bay Area. Segments also review some of the most useful projects run by past volunteers and list some of the educational and financial incentives that attract people to the program. Many simply have a strong desire to serve their country as civilians while earning a modest salary.
