HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 9, 2000 -- The "Dieter" lawsuit will soon become a thing of the Hollywood past. Variety reports today that the legal squabble between Mike Myers and his court opponents, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, is expected to reach a settlement soon, maybe as soon as today. Details of the settlement are not available, but the trade paper says the deal presumably involves Myers turning in another project to replace the nixed "Dieter."

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has publicly endorsed Britain's ruling Labour Party for the June 7 elections, Reuters reports. A press release from the Labour Party cites her praise for current Prime Minister Tony Blair and wife Cherie. "We all need good parenting with love and guidance and I think Tony and Cherie are great examples to us," said Halliwell, who left the Spice Girls in 1998. Halliwell's most recent single, It's Raining Men, became her fourth solo single to hit No. 1 in England, reaching to top spot last week. Labour is expected to retain power in the upcoming elections.
Country singer Clint Black and singer-actress wife Lisa Hartman (TV's Knots Landing) are the proud parents of a baby girl, Lily Pearl Black. She was born Tuesday night, and weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces, The Associated Press reports. A picture of the baby was shown Wednesday night on television, when Clint Black appeared on the Academy of Country Music Awards. This is the first child for the couple, who married in 1991.

"Kate and Jim had drawn up a list of 10 names but when the baby was born, none of them seemed right," Winslet's agent, Robert Garlock, told Reuters. "Then Mia came to them, and it just seemed right. There is no family significance. They just thought it was a really beautiful name," Garlock added. Winslet is taking a seven-month break to be with Mia. The British actress next appears in the Marquis De Sade drama "Quills" with Geoffrey Rush and Joaquin Phoenix.
HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 1, 2000 -- Geri Halliwell, former Spice Girl, has appeared in the horror film Spiceworld, but will not appear in any other production for quite a while. Formerly known as Ginger Spice, Halliwell was set to star in the film Therapy, as a mental patient who kindles a love affair with her shrink, but the London tabloid Sunday Express reports that lack of funding forced the production to a halt. At least $10 million was required to be raised for the September Films (London) project. News of the production of Therapy generated some productive buzz at this year's Cannes film fest, but the movie appears to be headed in the same direction as Halliwell's recording career.

Septuagenarian Estelle Getty tells the May 16 edition of the Globe that she is battling Parkinson's disease. "I'm determined not to go under with this thing," Getty, 75, tells the supermarket tab. Getty says she began experiencing symptoms five years ago, but remains in good health. She's due to appear in the May 15 edition of the CBS sitcom "Ladies' Man," alongside her ex-"Golden Girls" comrades Betty White, 78, and Rue McClanahan, 65. On "The Golden Girls" (1985-92), Getty played the feisty old one. Er, make that, the feisty old one called Sophia.
