  HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 7, 2000 -- In an attempt to beef up its action programming, Pearson Television has unveiled plans for a new series starring Italian model/actor Antonio Sabato Jr. “Lean Angle” will be centered on the world of professional motorcycle racing, with Sabato doing most of the riding himself.

  Veteran actress Ann Sothern died of heart failure late Friday at the age of 92.
  
  Sothern worked in show business for more than 70 years -- from B-movies to a television star to an Oscar-nominated performance in the 1987 The Whales of August.
  
  Born Harriette Lake in Valley City, North Dakota, in 1909, Sothern started her career singing on stage until she was spotted by Columbia Pictures. They signed her on as a bit player in 1934, and she eventually changed her name and worked her way into lead roles in B-movies.
  
  But her big break came when she was cast as the lead in MGM's 1939 Maisie, about a spirited showgirl and her adventures -- a part that was originally written for Jean Harlow.   The avowed Buddhist presented U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Monday with a copy of his 1997 coffee table book called "Pilgrim," a black and white photo documentary of the Tibetan people taken by Gere himself, Reuters reports.
  
  The 52-year-old actor and star of this year's "Dr. T and the Women" has been a very vocal activist for the independence of Tibet, which has been under the sovereignty of China since 1951. The United Nations has largely ignored the plight of the Tibetan people.

  HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 3, 2000 -- Star of The Practice, Camryn Manheim, will be a special guest star on an episode of NBC's Will & Grace this November portraying Will's (Eric McCormack) crazy psychic.
  
  In the episode titled "Gypsies, Tramps and Weed," Will, against his better judgement, uses a gift certificate from Grace (Debra Messing) to seek a psychic about his future and runs into Manheim, an absent-minded psychic who works from her beat up living room and whose predictions leave him reeling.
  
  This isn't the fist guest appearence on a TV series for the Emmy Award winner. Manheim has also been seen on Ally McBeal, Touched By an Angel, Chicago Hope, and Law & Order. It probably won't be her last either.

This: A day after ABC inked a deal with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for a "Survivor"-esque reality series ("The Runner") and announced plans to convert the video-game quizzer "You Don't Know Jack" into a primetime entertainment, the network is going ahead with yet another who-wants-to-win-money show.
  
  According to Daily Variety, the latest project is called "The People Versus." It's based on a British show (like Regis' "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire") in which the audience -- not a nattily attired host -- tries to stump contestants with trivia.
