Synopsis:
The tragic and inhuman plight of squatters who live in makeshift communities on the fringe of Bombay is the focus of this political documentary that takes no pains to hide its partisan nature. As the grim details of living on the edge unfold -- cardboard houses, families camping out on sidewalks or alongside busy highways -- a clear picture is painted of the lack of sanitary facilities and basic, human living standards. One outlet for frustration is the people's street theater that satirizes the brutality of the officials. Officials have no problem in bulldozing the squatters' settlements, for as a quote states in the beginning, rather than get rid of poverty they are more interested in getting rid of the poor.
