This black comedy finds Pepa (Jiri Hrzan) as a prisoner guard who goes easy on the inmates. He dreams one day of becoming a lighthouse keeper. When he marries a young gypsy girl, the town and even his own mother look down on him. He takes out his frustrations on animals and beats his dog every week. A prisoner takes advantage of his kindness one day and escapes with Pepa's wife. The incident changes him as he abandons his cruelty of animals in favor of brutalizing the prisoners. His actions bring him back in favor with his irate superior.
