I Saw the Sun (2009)

Synopsis

Forced immigration policies yield sweeping and residual effects for a closely-knit Turkish family, in I Saw the Sun, director Mahsun Kirmizigül's epic drama. For years, the Altun family has enjoyed a comfortable life in Turkey, but the government suddenly cracks down on the populace and strong-arms many nationals into relocation. Two members of the clan, Haydar and Isa, settle down in the capital city of Istanbul, but another, Davut Altun, looks beyond Turkish shores and moves with his wife and children to Norway. The drama ultimately canvasses 25 years in the life of the family, with three separate groups of parents and children courageously attempting to adjust to foreign environs.
