As adapted from the bestseller by author Lotta Thell, this gritty Swedish-language drama explores the dire tumult that erupts when a smack-addicted security guard falls deeply into the throes of love with a straight-laced cop. For Eva (Malin Crepin), a twentysomething night watchman eking out a dull existence, regular heroin fixes provide life's only emotional crescendos. Somewhat naïve about the control that the drug can exert, she shoots up while on duty and uses off hours to sleep off the effects. She has almost perfected this routine when her path intersects with that of policeman Erik (Joel Kinnaman) and the two begin an affair, promptly throwing Eva's schedule off-balance and out of whack. Soon, a visceral period of detox represents the only way out.
