Ievas Paradizes Darzs (1990)

Synopsis

Before the Second World War, the country of Latvia was known for the harmony that existed there between races and ethnic groups. In this movie, Hitler has ceded Latvia to Russia, and as a result, domestic spying arrangements are being set up which require neighbors to spy on neighbors. Vignettes from the lives of citizens who are attempting to cope under the new regime are shown. The somewhat sinister Dr. Duburs (Valentin Maculevics) has just loaned his walled garden (known as the "Garden of Eden") to a young ladies' man and his latest conquest for an assignation. The doctor is at the focal point of a number of plots and conspiracies. As a result of one of them, Eva (Dita Krenberga), the girl from the garden, is kidnapped.
