Ioannis Ofvieos (1973)

Ioannis Ofvieos (1973)

Synopsis

This tightly constructed psychological courtroom drama makes excellent use of its largely amateur cast. Based on real events that took place in Greece, it unfolds the events surrounding the brutal murder of a young woman, from the investigation of her life circumstances, to the discovery of the murderer and his subsequent trial and conviction. The focus of the storytelling is much more on the character of the individuals involved than on the facts themselves. Highlights of the drama include the distasteful readiness of family and neighbors to speak ill of the dead girl in order to win a mention in the news media, and the award-winning performance of University of Athens student Manolis Loyades as the psychotic killer John the Violent.
