Behold, the first official image of Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in 'Iron Man 2.'
After weeks of back and forth, Mickey Rourke will take on the role of a Russian villain in Iron Man 2, according to media reports. Further, the actor has attached himself to Passion Plays, a Mitch Glazer-written and -directed indie.
Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2 after some turmoil over his offer to come back for the sequel.
Sam Rockwell will go head-to-head with Robert Downey Jr. in the new Iron Man 2 as Tony Stark’s corporate rival Justin Hammer.
Mickey Rourke is on a roll ... and isn't slowing down! He and Sam Rockwell are in talks to play villains in Jon Favreau’s 'Iron Man 2', it was reported late yesterday. Although details of the script for the Justin Theroux-penned sequel are scant, 'The Hollywood Reporter' says word is Rourke would play a Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes Whiplash. 'Variety', however, contends the villain goes by the moniker the Crimson Dynamo – and the Internet fanboys appear to agree.
We met up with Terrence Howard earlier this year when he was promoting his role in Iron Man and the soft spoken, chill actor hinted at being a tad disappointed in many of his scenes ending up on the cutting room floor. Even so, we couldn't imagine he'd be replaced?
Fresh off his success with Iron Man Jon Favreau is already looking ahead to the sequel, which is set to premiere in April 2010. Hollywood.com caught up with the director on the set of the new comedy I Love You, Man where, despite attempts to discuss his newest role, both journalists and Favreau had no problem staying off topic. “You could tell by the reviews and box office that everybody seems to have jumped on board and really loves [Ironman]. That is really, really gratifying for all of us who worked so hard for so many years on the thing.”
Marvel Studios is already reaping the benefits of its first-ever self-financed comic book adaptation, Iron Man. Not only did the near-perfectly-reviewed Robert Downey Jr. film open to the all-time 2nd-best 3-day for a non-sequel with just over $100M, they also announced today that the company has blown out analyst earnings expectations for the first quarter of 2008.
