Synopsis
Texan Lyndon Johnson was a complex man, a sure-handed politician, and in some ways a great president, as this program illustrates. Part two of the Peabody Award-winning, four-volume LBJ Tapes collection, this installment chronicles Johnson's tumultuous rivalry with John F. Kennedy's charismatic brother, Bobby. Thrust into the nation's highest office when JFK was assassinated, Johnson felt beleaguered and threatened by the power of the Kennedy administration staff and by the volatile, ambitious Robert F. "Bobby" Kennedy, who sought the presidency for himself. Highlights include interviews, archival footage, photographs and numerous recordings of Oval Office, inner-sanctum phone calls of Johnson with other historic figures such as Bobby Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy, and press secretary George Reedy.
