Synopsis
The deception which characterized President Lyndon Baines Johnson's Vietnam policy is revealed in LBJ Tapes: Volume 3 - Into Vietnam - Playing With the Truth. The paranoid Johnson placed a bugging device across his own line, leaving a permanent record of his years in power. From these recordings, this Peabody award-winning documentary pieces together the untold story of how LBJ's inner circle plotted to provoke an incident and initiate a cover up as he dragged America into the bloody Vietnam conflict. The three-part series examines LBJ's term in office, beginning with Hello, Mr. President and Johnson's first call as president to Mrs. Rose Kennedy aboard Air Force One on the flight back from Dallas with JFK's body. LBJ Tapes: Volume 2 - RFK vs. LBJ offers personal accounts from press secretary George Reedy of his boss, one of America's most controversial modern-day leaders.
