Gerry Conte, newly-minted detective, struggles to find a balance between her demanding job and her law studies, and her marriage suffers in the process. Frustrated by the chauvinistic attitudes at work, she desparately searches for a way to prove herself. She reluctantly accepts an assignment to baby-sit a small time mob informant, but she soon discovers that the man harbors an enormously important secret. When her fellow officers fail to act on the informant's tips, Gerry can't decide if she should take matters into her own hands or go the safe route and say nothing. To make matters worse, all the time she spends with the informant results in an attraction that she can't seem to shake.
