Anne is an eighteenth-century Breton woman who, jilted at the altar, decides to cut her hair off, disguise herself as a man, and join a ship. Her fiance, it turns out, was merely drunk, and travels to Marseille to try and join her. Meanwhile, she has been discovered, jumps ship with a friendly Arab, and in Marseille gets close to a hooker who likes her all the more when she discovers that Anne is in fact a woman.
