A career criminal climbs a punishing trail to a new life in this independent action drama. Big Jim Cartoni (James W. Boinski) has been involved with the mob most of his life, but as he edges past middle age he sees he's been courting too much danger for too little reward and wants to get out and go straight. Big Jim's life-long dream has been to open a nightclub, and he's finally started to make good on his ambitions. But before "Club Cartoni" can open its doors, a normal drop of the day's gambling earnings goes sour and Cartoni finds himself on the outs with the head of the local syndicate (Vincent J. Incopero). Cartoni is also feeling heat from Joey Moran (Norm Boucher), a fellow mobster who has had it in for him since they were both kids. Big Jim becomes desperate to get his club up and running without Moran or the boss getting in his way, but he learns the hard way that jumping clean from the mob is never easy. Legit was written, directed, and produced by James W. Boinski, who also stars; most of the film's cast are regulars at Tommy Gun's Garage, a long-running nightspot in Chicago.
