Austrian documentarist Erwin Wagenhofer helms this probing, penetrating and deeply critical look at the economic foundations of neo-liberalism in the early 21st century. Wagenhofer begins with the surface level reality of global finance - that of banks borrowing and lending money from consumers and corporations -and probes deeper to expose the many layers of the economic trade that lie just hidden from view. He thus reveals the unshakable and often frightening connections that exist between lay individuals and the various political schema attached to the world financial markets. This film emerged amid the global financial crisis of 2008, making it a timely effort indeed.
