The most glamorous of all the big Hollywood studios, MGM always began its movies with an image of the company lion giving a roar. Produced by MGM in 1992, this is the second installment of a three-volume documentary history of the studio that once claimed to have "more stars than there are in the heavens!" Narrated by actor Patrick Stewart, this chapter shows the great studio at its zenith, creating timeless musicals such as The Wizard of Oz (1939) and comedies starring Andy Rooney as Andy Hardy. The Tarzan series starring former Olympic champion swimmer Johnny Weismuller continued strong throughout this period. Highlights include clips from various movies, with sequences featuring MGM stars such as Judy Garland.
