Synopsis
Melissa Lee produced, wrote, and directed this Australian documentary about Mary, a 34-year-old lesbian mother of two, the victim of a rape and beating. The film captures the pain experienced by Mary's family and friends, as well as positive steps taken by the responsive community. An anti-violence campaign was aimed at young males, and Floods Lane, where the assault happened, was converted from a dark and dangerous trap into a well-lighted, newly landscaped safer area, renamed Mary's Place. Shown at the 1998 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Film Festival.
