In this comedy, an East German fellow leads a crew of wallpaper hangers until he discovers that he has inherited a small fortune in West Berlin and that he can cross the border to get it. He then decides to take a trip 'round the world before going home. He somehow ends up getting a new passport that enables him to travel freely between East and West Germany so that when he goes back to his job he can bring West German wallpaper, that is very popular, into his own country and increase his business. Unfortunately things don't go exactly as planned.
