Meteor and Shadow (1985)

Meteor and Shadow (1985)

Synopsis

The eccentric life and poignant death of Greek poet Napoleon Lapathiotis are the subject of this mannered, stylized biography by Takis Spetsiotis. Takis Moschos plays the poet whose thinking and attitudes are illustrated in conversations while walking through gardens or while lounging in well-appointed drawing rooms. The staged and artificial settings keep the poet at a distance, but Moschos gives him a natural, human touch. Controversial because of his gay sexual orientation, his communist sympathies, and his addiction to opium, Lapathiotis was still a man of his times -- his preferences in politics, sex, and addictions were worn more as oddities than as an offensive against the bastions of Greek society.
