Synopsis

Mochizuki Rokuro has established himself as a director of genre films, particularly porno and Yakuza (gangster) genres, among which Another Lonely Hitman and Onibi are quite well-known. Minazuki also contains a generous amount of sex and violence. The hero, Suwa, is an ordinary man in his late forties who is also a computer freak. His marriage to Sayoko was arranged. He never had another woman before. One day she disappears, with all his money, passport, and credit cards. She leaves only a mysterious note that says: "Everyone is moon. I can't take it anymore, farewell." Suwa thinks that they had a good marriage despite the fact that they had no children. He wants his wife back, but he does not want to get the police involved. To ease Sayoko's pain, his younger brother, violent Akira, puts him in touch with a prostitute, Yumi. Suwa gets along well with Yumi. One day they go to a small fishing village named "Minazuki" (which literally means "everyone was moon"), where they can expect to find Sayoko and her lover. Minazuki had its world premiere at the 1999 Rotterdam International Film Festival, where a complete retrospective of Rokuro's work was shown the previous year.
