Synopsis
Apoorva Lakhia's Bollywood action yarn Mission Istanbul unfurls against the byzantine and deadly backdrop of contemporary Middle Eastern politics. Viveik Oberoi stars as Vikas Sagar, a brilliant Indian broadcast journalist tapped for a position by news producer Owais Hussain. Hussain works at the über-controversial, Istanbul-based news agency Al Johara - controversial because nearly everyone excoriates the station as nothing more than a mouthpiece for terrorists. At the moment, Vikas grapples with unbridled turmoil in his personal life, including an acrimonious divorce from wife Anjali, over the issue of having a baby. Desperate for a new start and a clean break, Vikas accepts Hussain's offer and initially finds Al Johara a warm and pleasant place to work - but in time it grows almost unbearably sinister; he learns of a "forbidden floor," the 13th Floor (known as "The Catacomb"); witnesses the brutal terrorist-led execution of Hussain when that producer dares to quit Al Johara and move in with his Irish girlfriend; and realizes that his own life is now in grave danger. Declared a criminal and sought by everyone (including the CIA and the Turkish police), Vikas partners up with a Turkish commando, and the two men take the station by the throat, guns blazing. They ultimately plan to unveil Al Johara's deadly secrets to the outside world - but must first escape from the sinister web that ensconces them.
