Mlodost Chopina

Mlodost Chopina

Synopsis

Czeslaw Wollejko plays Young Chopin in this Polish biopic. Covering the years 1825 to 1830, the film traces Frederic Chopin's development as a musical artist. Each of his major compositions is placed within the context of a momentous event in Chopin's life. While this smacks of Hollywoodization (the same device was used in the 1939 Stephen Foster biography Swanee River) it plays more naturalistically than it sounds. Wollejko's piano playing is dubbed by Halina Czerny-Stefanska, winner of the 1949 International Chopin Competition. Filmed in 1948, Young Chopin was released in the U.S. in 1952.
