Synopsis

This politically-oriented documentary focuses on the individual hardships faced by a group of Jewish musicians who had separately applied for exit visas from the Soviet Union to live in the U.S. and practice music there. Before they were granted exit permits, they were harassed and put under surveillance -- sometimes for years, they lost their jobs and were blacklisted, and whole families could not leave together -- the children were usually sent on first. Eventually, the musicians made it to the U.S. where they have been successful in continuing with their profession. This is an interesting documentary, especially for viewers who follow modern political history.
