Nach dem Fall (2000)

Nach dem Fall (2000)

Synopsis

In 1989, the Berlin Wall, which both physically and psychologically was one of the most potent symbols of the Cold War, came down as East and West Berlin began the process of reunification. Ten years after this historic event, documentary filmmakers Eric Black and Frauke Sandig took a camera crew to Berlin to examine how the collapse of the wall had impacted the city. The Berlin they depict in Nach Dem Fall is a city reshaping itself, with over 50,000 new buildings either completed or in construction since the wall came down. Black and Sandig also interview a wide variety of people on the impact of reunification, from a former East German intelligence agent and a historian who believes that Berlin's attempts to erase the evidence of the wall encourages people to forget a past that should be remembered, to an entrepreneur who has made good on his dream of recycling the wall's materials, and homeopathic healers who use bits of the wall in some of their remedies. Nach Dem Fall was shown as part of the 2000 San Francisco Film Festival.
