In stark contrast to the harsh landscape in which they live, the women of Ndebele decorate their homes and clothing with brightly colored designs. The proud displays of their art continue in spite of a history of economic struggle and inequality issues. Their lack of a strong political voice has resulted in many years of oppression, but the Ndebeles' expressive art endures. Ndebele Women also demonstrates the powerful role of tradition in the lives of the Ndebele, and looks at ancient practices still observed, including rituals surrounding fertility.
