Synopsis

Oysterman's Gold marked a significant improvement in the photographic quality of the films produced by the Philadelphia-based Lubin Company. Evidently lensed on location in the Chesapeake Bay region, the story zeroes in on an oyster fisherman who comes to port to collect his money for his latest haul. Weighed down with gold, the fisherman proves easy prey for a gang of thieving wharf rats. Trapping the hero at the edge of a rocky cliff, the crooks try to throw him into the sea but succeed mainly in killing off each other. The sole surviving villain is finally able to murder the fisherman and claim his gold, but he comes to grief when the ghost of his victim drives him into a watery grave. Oysterman's Gold was a remake of an earlier French melodrama, produced by Pathe Freres.
