This film biography of the French torch singer Edith Piaf (1915-1963) was made simultaneously with a French and English soundtrack. Piaf (Brigitte Ariel) grew up on the streets of Paris and was a bawdy, powerful character. This film chronicles her rise to vocal pre-eminence, and highlights her career in the '20s and '30s. Some of Piaf's own singing is included in the soundtrack. Among the innumerable songs she made popular in France and the U.S. are "La Vie En Rose", and "Milord".
