Providence and Mrs. Urmy (1915)

Synopsis

Providence and Mrs. Urmy is of note as the last of the Francis X. Bushman films to be released by the Essanay Film Manufacturing Company. As with many films starring Bushman and his real-life lover Beverly Bayne, romance takes center stage as a young American woman (Bayne) attempts to escape from an unwanted engagement to an English nobleman (Bushman). Beset by problems both legal and financial, Essanay was already deeply in turmoil when Bushman terminated his association with the company on May 1, 1915. Three years later Essanay was out-of-business. Bushman, on the other hand, would continue making films until his death in 1966.
