Rallybrudar (2008)

Synopsis

Director Lena Koppel's feminist-charged period piece Rallybrudar travels back to early 1960s Sweden - a time and place where, shockingly, most women were forbidden from possessing driver's licenses. Ulla (Eva Rose) and Birgitta (Marie Robertson) are two assistant veterinarians who spend their days driving at absurd speeds between farms, to protect the bull sperm they are toting. Bit by bit, this gives way to a die-hard passion for auto racing. The young women grow determined to prove their mettle by "beating the boys," once and for all, at an otherwise all-male road rally - thus setting a remarkable precedent for equal rights and social change in Sweden.
