Synopsis

In this short drama from the Soviet Union, a young girl without a mother grows up under the thumb of her brutal and thoughtless father, who lashes out with violence against her and tries to kill a local schoolteacher. When the girl can stand no more, she summons the courage to turn her father in to the police and wins the admiration of local officials. Directed by Boris Svetozarov, Tanka -- Traktirshchitsa was screened as an example of Soviet films for youth at the 2000 Locarno Film Festival's retrospective on the history of cinema in the Soviet Union.
