Synopsis
German filmmaker Maria Speth makes her feature film debut with this romantic-drama about the need to communicate. Lynn (Sabine Timoteo) is a bubbly, energetic lass who, though popular with her friends, is drifting aimlessly through life. Her boyfriend, David (Florian Müller-Mohrungen), is the complete opposite; a top-ranked swimmer, he single-mindedly trains for the world championship. Though he cares for her, David is resolved to not let his relationship get in the way of sporting glory. One day, Maria meets Koji (Hiroki Mano), a Japanese exchange student who speaks only a little English and even less German. In spite of herself, Maria finds herself drawn to Koji's quiet warmth. Even though romance between the two seems imminent, Maria cannot let go of David. This film was screened at the 2001 Toronto Film Festival.
