In yet another embarrassment for Hong Kong TV game shows, a contestant on the Hong Kong version of The Weakest Link was awarded $23,000 Wednesday after his answer to a question was erroneously ruled incorrect.
NBC yanked an episode of The Weakest Link late Monday only hours before airtime when it learned that the winning contestant, Julie Harmon, had been married to NBC Studios president Ted Harbert 15 years ago. An NBC spokeswoman said that no one connected with the show had previously known of the prior relationship between Harmon and Harbert. Harbert himself said that he had not been in touch with his ex-wife for years. Harmon, who won $92,000 on the show, will probably keep the money, reports indicated.
HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 8, 2000 -- R&B group TLC is missing its Left Eye. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, the spirited one-third of TLC reportedly has been missing since before the Labor Day weekend, and her friends and family members have put out a public alert. A business partner last saw the 29-year-old a week ago in her Atlanta apartment. She seemed fine at the time, the business partner said. However, Lopes was MIA at an important press conference and at a family gathering in Florida over the weekend. This isn’t the first time Lopes has been in the news. The loose cannon made headlines in 1994 when she torched the Atlanta home of her then-boyfriend, Atlanta Falcons star Andre Rison. Left Eye, phone home! SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 28, 2000 -- So, Steven Spielberg has finally given the OK to release his neo-classic Universal movies on DVD. That's nice, but it's no big deal, right? Wrong. Because even though DVD's emergence as the dominant home entertainment format is undeniable, there are a lot of filmmakers, movie studio types and other influential people out there who continue to deny it, leaving lots of classic movies that have been available on plain ol' VHS tape for years unreleased in the new format. In fact, a DVD collector's most-wanted-disc list would include these hall of fame movies: "Citizen Kane" (1941), "King Kong" (the 1933 original), the "Godfather" trilogy, "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962), "The Apartment" (1960), "The African Queen" (1951), "Bringing Up Baby" (1938), "Superman" (1978) and its sequels, "Back to the Future" and "The French Connection"
