SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 10, 2000 -- The ambulance that stood by for Annette Bening at the Oscars can go home. She's done. The "American Beauty" star, who was very much with child when she attended the March 26 ceremony, has given birth to child No. 4, the publicist for husband Warren Beatty announced today. Details were beyond sketchy -- no word on when, where and how (although we can pretty much figure that one out on our own). Also no word on a name. All we know is that it was a girl. Bening, 41, and Beatty, 62, have three other children -- daughter Kathlyn, born in 1992, son Benjamin, born in 1994 and daughter Isabel, born in 1997. While Bening braved the Oscar ceremony (only to watch herself lose the Best Actress trophy to Hilary Swank), she was an in-abstentia winner at Sunday's British Academy Film Awards, the U.K. equivalent of the Academy Awards.

And even though Mrs. Warren Beatty has done the whole birth thing before (three times, actually), we inquired if the "American Beauty" and her hubby were taking any special medical precautions to gear up for Sunday's whiteknuckler. "Not really," another worker at the office says. "[Bening] is due in early April. They're just carrying on about their business day by day." Of course, a quick look at t

The suit, which was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Delaware, alleges that Planet Hollywood has continued to use their names, photographs and memorabilia in its promotion, despite the fact that the four athletes had notified the restaurant chain last month that they consider their 1996 endorsement contracts to be terminated. In the contracts, the sport figures were to receive shares of Planet Hollywood stock in exchange for their endorsements. But the four sports greats say that Planet Hol

Nonetheless, Daniels remains convinced a deal will be made, and he expressed confidence in the guild's negotiating team.
SAG is asking for large pay increases for middle-income actors and wants companies to take steps to curb their increasing tendency to shoot in Canada and other foreign countries because of cheaper wages and tax incentives. Daniels read part of a letter from the president of Canada's actors union, Thor Bishopric, asking American film and television companies not to play the two unions against one another.

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 24, 2000 -- Twenty-eight TV writers filed a $200 million federal civil rights lawsuit on Monday against TV networks, entertainment companies and talent agencies, saying that Hollywood has blacklisted them because of their age. According to Reuters, the lawsuit says that Hollywood has discriminated against individuals over age 40 since the 1980s to the extent that older writers are unable to find work, thusly driven to financial collapse and mental breakdowns. "Since 1995, my career has spiraled into an abyss," writer Tracy Keenan Wynn told reporters at a news conference in Los Angeles announcing the lawsuit. Wynn added that young TV executives who say that he can't relate to young adults and therefore is a poor choice to write for them usually reject him. "Was Shakespeare only 15 when he wrote 'Romeo and Juliet'?" said Wynn, a two-time Emmy winner.

HOLLYWOOD, June 9, 2000 -- Used, abused, dissed and dissed again. Welcome to network TV, indie god. Writer/director Kevin Smith's toon version of his 1994 no-budget, breakout comedy "Clerks" was axed by ABC Thursday after just two airings. And while lots of shows get canned, few shows go through this: Get teased in spots during the Super Bowl, get set for a mid-season March premiere, get yanked from schedule, get pushed back to the summer for a six-week run, get bad ratings in its first outing, get even worse episodes in its second outing, get canned and -- indignity of indignities -- replaced, starting next Tuesday, by reruns of "Spin City." Ugh.
HOLLYWOOD, May 31, 2000 -- The CIA's got nothing on Janet Jackson. That woman can keep a secret. Remember last year when the superstar popster announced that she was ending her 13-year-long "personal relationship" with collaborator Rene Elizondo? What she didn't mention was that Elizondo was also her husband. How'd we learn about this little item? The old-fashioned way -- by reading that Elizondo filed for divorce today, ending a marriage we didn't even know existed. Like we said, that Janet Jackson is good. According to Elizondo's paperwork, the two wed in March 1991 at their home San Diego-area home. They separated in January 1999. And, rest assured, Elizondo says, they have no secret children. In the divorce petition, Elizondo says the marriage was deep-sixed by the ol' "irreconcilable differences." (He thought they were married; she didn't?) A

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 1, 2000 -- Remember "Gorilla World," the would-be UPN series conceived by "Spawn" architect Todd McFarlane? The one that sounded suspiciously like a certain film predecessor called "Planets of the Apes"?Well, apparently the folks at 20th Century Fox (the studio that owns the right to the "Apes" franchise) also noticed the marked similarity between the two projects. And they are not buying any of that homage crap.Today's Daily Variety says UPN has scrapped the project after Fox's legal wing fired off a letter. For its part, UPN insists that the series' cancellation had nothing whatsoever to do with Fox's legal meddling.McFarlane, on the other hand, is not as silent in the matter.
