HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 19, 2000 -- Who said you can't re-create history? • TV STUFF: 'Weber Show' Retains Curse

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 5, 2001 -- Ever heard of the sitcom "The Weber Show?" No?

Maybe you know it by its previous title, "Cursed." Ring a bell?

Well, it doesn't matter anyway. The Steven Weber ("Wings") sitcom has been yanked from the schedule during February sweeps by NBC. It's hardly a surprise for the show, which has failed to retain most of the audience from its Must-See lead-in, "Friends." But the show isn't dead -- yet. NBC did order a full season, so maybe there's a chance. (Insert pun here.)

SUBURBAN RENEWAL: In happier news, the animated sitcom "King of the Hill" has been given the nod for another season, along with "Futurama."

  • Madonna Conquers Guy, Web

Is Guy Ritchie really going to make an honest woman out of Madonna?

That's what the rumor mills are saying at least.

The British tabloid the Sun says today that the Queen of Music is reportedly planning a wedding extravaganza, budgeted at $1.6 million, at the Dornoch Cathedral in Scotland for Dec. 22, with a post-matrimonial shindig at the neighboring Skibo Castle.

And while they're at the holy site, the couple reportedly might also christen their 4-month-old offspring Rocco at the ceremony, so the tab says.

Skibo Castle has been a favorite spot for celebrity weddings, with patrons such as actors Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle. The picturesque location was also rumored to be the wedding ground for Hollywood power couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who, of course, wed in New York instead.

    Thus far, the cas

  • Madonna Live on Web

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 28, 2000 -- One of Madonna's many talents include creating a strong public relations buzz. And the singer/actress has done it again with her latest concert.

Only in this case, fans don't have to spend money to see their favorite singing mom perform on stage. Her London show today can be seen on the Internet in what Microsoft's MSN says will be the biggest online show in history.

Only a lucky few, 3,500 to be exact, will be attending the concert at London's Brixton Academy. Even the some of the biggest celebrities are clamoring to get in to see the Queen of Music in the flesh.

Some of the stars who will get in are Mick Jagger, George Michael and actor Ewan McGregor. The event will mostly be attended by celebrities and a few winners of radio contests.

Madonna, 42, is scheduled to sing tracks from her newest album, "Music."

    MSN said it

  • Tim Burton's Web Invasion

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 25, 2000 -- Film guy Tim Burton is coming to a computer near you. The gothic-esque auteur, who made "Edward Scissorhands" and reinvented the "Batman" character among other things, is set to debut his Web series "Stainboy" on shockwave.com on Tuesday, Daily Variety says.

The concept of the animated show is based on a character from Burton’s book "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories." It follows a hapless superhero whose forte is the leaving of stains.

Besides the Netcast, the "Stainboy" property also includes trading cards, greeting cards and interactive games that can be downloaded from the Web site.

  • SCI-FI GEEK: Spider-Man's Tangled Web

HOLLYWOOD, July 31, 2000 -- Spider-Man's secret identity has been revealed. Now, the question remains: Is he a nerdy geek or a mutated freak?

Long-standing rumors were confirmed today, as the movie trade newspapers reported that Tobey Maguire has been chosen over numerous notable young actors and is in final negotiations to play Peter Parker, the high school bookworm who becomes the wall-crawling hero from the Marvel comic book.

But, even before movie fandom can weigh in on the pros and cons of "The Cider House Rules" guy playing Spidey, director Sam Raimi and Columbia Pictures are already embroiled in a little controversy that, who knows, could maybe mushroom into a serious PR concern for makers of the Next Big Superhero Movie.

Here's the issue: Mechanical web shooters or organic web shooters?

By now, you're probably asking: "Say what?"

    You see, R
