  • 'X-Files' Afterlife

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 4, 2000 -- Rest assured, X-philes. Conspiracy theories, paranormal activities, unexplained phenomena -- the stuff that keeps Mulder, Sculley, and "X-Files" fanatics going -- are about to find another outlet on network TV.

While the fate of the popular Fox sci-fier is still up in the air, the network is officially rolling out plans to keep the spirit of paranoia alive in another form. So who's in charge of picking up the truth-seeking torch? Three subterranean computer geeks irregularly showcased on the sci-fi series, known as the Lone Gunmen (a k a actors Bruce Harwood , Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund).

Top honchos at Fox confirmed on Thursday that a pilot for an "X-Files" spin-off, featuring the conspiracy-obsessed trio, has been given the go-ahead. The show's being considered for the 2000-2001 prime-time season.

  • 'Survivor' Meets 'X-Files'

HOLLYWOOD, July 17, 2000 -- Is it a rumor or a sneaky publicity stunt? It could be both. Word is that a hacker who goes by the screen name CAPLOCK has cracked a secret code on the show's official Web site and supposedly discovered the identity of the winning contestant of the mega-popular, man vs. nature reality TV series.

And the winner, according to the sleuthing cybergeek, is Gervase Petersen, 30, a youth basketball coach from New Jersey.

"We verified the information, and it’s all there, but whether it means anything, who knows," says Paul Sims, who runs www.survivorsucks.com, where the supposed scoop was revealed Friday. "I’m a bit skeptical that CBS would allow people to know who the winner is in advance."

The Web page in question is the "Tribal Council Voting History Page" on the "Survivor" Web site (www.cbs.com/survivor). The page features photos of all 16

  • 'X-Files' Crew Electrocuted, 1 Dies

HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 1, 2000 -- A TV production crewmember working on the set of Fox’s "The X-Files" was electrocuted Monday and six others were injured, according to The Associated Press. An electrical line sent a 4,800-volt charge through a scaffold the crew was using. "It charged the entire scaffolding," Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells told AP.

It wasn’t clear how the power line came into contact with the scaffolding. One person on the scaffolding died, another sustained serious injuries and the other victims suffered minor injuries, Wells said.

According to a production notice at the scene, the crew was filming an episode involving dialogue, a foot chase and rain effects.

  • Scully says goodbye to "X-Files"

Actress Gillian Anderson told London's Sunday Times that this will be her last season on the hit Fox series The X-Files. Anderson cited a desire to spend more time as a mom and an aspiration to land more roles as a stage actress as reasons for the decision. Having joined the cast of the X-Files in 1993, Anderson told the Times, "Having been Scully for such a long time, I have to prove myself in other roles." David Duchovny, who with Anderson turned the X-Files into an international hit, left the series this season.

  • Why Mulder won't return to X-Files

According to Pagesix.com, David Duchovny will not be returning to the Fox series X-Files after the show's season finale because he was not happy with the way producers handled his character's story line. Duchovny also squabbled with producers over a syndication deal and his desire to leave the series. Last season, the actor only appeared in half of the episodes, which the show explained in that unique X-Files way: he was, of course, abducted by aliens.

  • "X-Files" to return - without Duchovny, maybe without Carter

Fox confirmed Thursday that The X-Files, with David Duchovny x'ed out, will be returning to the network for another season. Gillian Anderson, despite her announced reluctance to remain, will do so nonetheless.

  • Fox Fined in 'X-Files' Death

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 23, 2001 -- Safety agency Cal/OSHA slapped 20th Century Fox Television fines of more than $41,000 as a result of a fatal accident that occurred on the set of "The X-Files" last year.

Jim Engh, a 38-year-old grip, was killed, and six others on the show were injured in August when scaffolding they were standing on while setting up an L.A. shoot came in contact with high-power lines.

In its ruling, Cal/OSHA determined that Fox committed three serious safety violations, including allowing employees to work near high-voltage lines without taking steps to guard them from danger and properly securing the scaffolding.

The agency also said that Fox failed to post written code of safety practices on the job site. Fox has 15 days to contest the ruling.

  • The X-Files: Back for another Season

HOLLYWOOD, May 16, 2000 – "The X-Files" will be back for another season to seek that ever-so-illusive truth, it has been confirmed. Fox Network and "X-Files" guru Chris Carter has announced today that cult sci-fi series, which focuses on everything from earthly paranoia to otherworldly activities and everything in between, been renewed for a eighth season.

"There are still so many more stories to tell in ‘The X-Files,’ said Carter in a statement. "And I’m pleased that the show will be returning next season to give us that opportunity."

But don’t celebrate too fast, X-philes. While lead thespian Gillian Anderson is apparently game and ready to return, the producer still has not been able to safeguard the return of the series’ other star, the embittered David Duchovny, who has been busy suing the Fox network over a syndication deal.

  • CHANNEL SURFER: 'Cops' Hunts Down 'X-Files'

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 20, 2000 -- Tonight's heavy with recommended shows, but topping the list is another inventive "X-Files" (9:00 p.m. EST/PST, Fox). In one of the more inspired "crossovers" of the season, the episode follows an intrepid camera crew from another long-time Fox staple, the reality-based "COPS," as they hook up with a couple of FBI agents looking for a werewolf in Los Angeles.

Just when you think they may be running out of steam, and rumors that the show won't be back next season might be a merciful thing after all, "The X-Files" reminds you that it's still one of the most clever and entertaining hours on TV.

-- Have you seen the new 2Gether video "U+Me=Us"?! 2 cool! MTV's first-ever made-for-TV movie "2Gether" (8 p.m. EST, MTV) gives the "Spinal Tap" treatment to the boy-band genre. And if the above-mentioned video is any indication, it's 2 fun-E,

  • Anderson says she's forced to remain on "X-Files"

The X-Files co-star Gillian Anderson has indicated that she is currently appearing in the series against her will.
