In this romantic drama, Spring Swallow (Chinese name Yin Ch'un-yen, played by Lu Hsiao-fen) is a young widow of a peasant who is placed in an arranged marriage with a distant, uncommunicative businessman. Nobody consulted her about any of this, and after trying to make a go of her marriage, she finds that she just doesn't care much anymore. When a local businessman takes a romantic interest in her, she responds with interest of her own, but the burgeoning relationship has a serious obstacle in the person of her interfering mother-in-law.
